| Turnout is safe, well managed and available as required. We are a small hill livestock farm and in addition to picking up droppings daily, we cross graze our turnout during the course of the year to ensure that our grassland is in the best of condition. All horses must be wormed in accordance with good worming practice before your visit and we recommend an up-to-date 'flu vaccination. | ![]() |
| There are two small turnout paddocks for the exclusive use of guests' horses adjacent to the farmyard. Both are fenced with a mix of sturdy post and rail and hedging (inside of which there is some wire as we do run sheep) and can be seen from the house, the yard and the self-contained B&B accommodation. | ![]() |
Cumbrian Hoofbeats is a British Horse Society Approved Livery Yard
Full livery is included in our TARIFF, so that all of our guests can enjoy their horses whilst leaving the more mundane chores to us. We do not offer diy, grass or part livery.
Our full livery includes mucking out in the morning, skipping out during the day, daily turnout, bring in and brush off or light groom, change rugs if necessary, hay and easibed bedding. Hard feed is charged at cost and although we stock alfalfa and quick-soak unmolassed sugar beet, we will obtain other feeds for your horse whilst you are here if you advise us in advance. We ask that you bring any supplements or special feeds with you and we will feed them in accordance with your instructions.
We also offer holiday livery for horses when owners are away. Our £15 daily rate for holiday livery includes full livery and daily turnout as above, but we do not offer exercising or schooling, although this can be arranged at extra cost if required.. For horses travelling north-south and east transit livery (bed & breakfast with your horse) is available too - with easy access from the M74 at Gretna, via Longtown, via the M6 at Jcn 44 via the A7 and from the A69 at Brampton. Email to Book or telephone 01228 676938.
Stabling is available for visiting horses at nearby Holme House too, where there are both modern internal stables and traditional stone stables. Holme House is a hill livestock farm close to Howard House and home to Mrs Terri Graham, BHSII, who has a floodlit, international size all-weather arena and is one of the instructors working regularly with visiting riders and their horses. For more information about Terri, click on our Instructors page.
Vets and Farriers are always available if required and because we have our own competition horses, we have established good relationships with a highly regarded equine practice and a leading farrier. Any fees incurred on behalf of guests will be charged at cost.
