Whilst some visitors to Cumbrian Hoofbeats are keen competitive riders and want to focus on training and schooling with good, experienced instructors, almost everyone enjoys a pleasant hack in scenic countryside and we have some great riding country on our doorstep. If your idea of 'riding holiday heaven' is a different ride out every day on your own horse, our quiet, unspoilt corner of Cumbria is a good choice.
However, even though Cumbria boasts more bridleways than any other county, it's an inevitable fact that many of these public bridleways in the area are poorly maintained - some not at all - and although marked on the definitive map, they are often difficult to find on the ground and frequently impassable. Local knowledge makes all the difference however and we do know where you can ride locally - although we don't promise 'off road heaven' because it just doesn't exist!
In addition to the rides described, if you want to travel a little further afield, there are more really good rides that you can enjoy - ask us when booking. We are always looking to add new, interesting rides, so you may well find a different opportunity when you visit us.
It is possible to ride out directly from the yard, but the nearest bridleways are unfortunately only passable for short distances, which means riding is mostly on the quiet country roads and lanes with just short stretches of usable bridleway. The scenery and views are still stunning, but as all of our visitors have their own transport, it's easy to reach the best off-road riding and our rides often start after a short drive to a convenient starting point.
