Illustrious Bloodlines

Crackenthorpe Sensation's grandsire, the Anglo European Studbook Elite stallion Pentagon, was the 1977 Dutch Champion and his progeny won many Championships in Holland, at the breed shows, gained Ster and Keur status and competed Internationally in both dressage and jumping disciplines. British-bred stock by Pentagon mirror his success as a dual purpose sire in the Netherlands.

Pentagon's sire, Erdball, was a thoroughbred stallion, who won 17 races and was placed a further 15 times from 41 starts - a high strike rate. By Abendfrieden, who was himself by the the tremendously prepotent sire Ferro, who was in turn sired by the iconic Landgraf, Erdball's blood is pivotal in many illustrious performance bloodlines and he sired international competition horses including Nick Skelton's international showjumper Apollo, Royal Diamond, Triton, Rebad S and more. Landgraf's influence is also found in Erball's dam, Erinnerung, as he was her maternal grandsire.

Ferro was a very good racehorse in Germany, winning the Deutsches (German) Derby, the Union Rennen, the Grosser Preis von Berlin (new course record), and other races, and retired to become a leading sire in Germany. Son Athanasius, a Germany Derby winner, established a line of good flat racers -- Ticino, (German Derby, Grosser Preis von Berlin (3 times), leading sire); Neckar (Germany Derby, Prix de Chantilly). Three of Neckar's thoroughbred sons became instrumental in German warmblood breeding, and Vollkorn, approved as a sire for Oldenburgs, Hanoverians, Trakehners and Westphalians, produced the champion Oldenburg son Volturno (amongst others), who helped win the team Olympic silver medal in eventing in 1976 and went on to produce approved warmblood sons, show jumpers and dressage horses. Abendfrieden also sired two important thoroughbred sons, Perser, an approved Hanoverian sire, and Pik As, who proved to be a top sire of international showjumpers and whose line is still valued in various warmblood breeds. Ferro's son, Anblick, produced a Holsteiner son, Aldato.

Pentagon's dam, Ubertina, a KWPN Ster mare, was herself sired by the world famous Holstein stallion Farn, sire of Nimmerdor and founder of what is still one of the most sought after bloodlines lines in Holland. In 2000, Nimmerdor was elected 'the stallion of the 20th century' in the Netherlands, following his still internationally recognised sire Farn, who by the end of his stallion career was the sire of 13 approved sons. In 1978 Farn had been awarded the 'keur' predicate, in 1991 and he was delcared 'preferent', seven years after his death. He also left 123 'ster', 31 'keur', 14 'preferent' and 6 'prestatie' mares.
