The beach ride, across the lonely expanses of sand that border the Solway Estuary, starts from the yard owned by one of the instructors who trains Cumbrian Hoofbeats visitors, David Wadge BHSI and his wife Rachel BHSAI. It is about a 30 minute drive away, very close to the famous Gretna Green and well worth the trip! When the tide is out, there are miles of sand and as they keep telling us - it's amazing fun, even when you ride on it several days a week.

Rachel will be your guide for the Beach Ride, which is usually around 2 hours in the saddle, but may be longer or shorter, depending on what you want and how fit both riders and horses are. Rachel will be well-mounted and knows where all the driftwood logs and small dtiches are, along with those perfect stretches of sand for a canter or gallop, but if your idea of the perfect beach ride is rather less exciting, just say so and everything will happen at a much more sedate 'holiday' pace. The beach ride costs £30 for one or two riders, £15 for each for three or more riders.

If you'd like a full day out, a typical itinerary would include a lesson with David for one or two riders together (larger groups would enjoy separate lessons), a picnic-style lunch and a 2 hour beach ride with Rachel. The timings of the tides determines whether the beach ride is morning or afternoon, the lessons taking place in the other 'half' of the day. The cost for the full day day is £50.00 per rider, £45.00 per rider for 3 or more riders.

Local knowledge is essential, which is why it isn't safe to ride unaccompanied on the beach.

Payment for the beach ride will be directly to Rachel Wadge on the day of your ride.
